FOREWORD
Message from the President of I-LISS
It is my distinct honor to welcome you to the 9th International Library and Information
Science Society (I-LISS) in the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, Universitas Islam
Negeri Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Indonesia. As the President of I-LISS, I extend my
deepest gratitude to all contributors: researchers, practitioners, students, and
collaborators, who have shared their insights and dedicated time to making this event a
success.
This year, in the 9th I-LISS Conference 2025, our main theme,
<Revisiting Competencies:
Preparing the Next Generation of Library and Information Science Professionals=
, speaks
to the urgent need for transformation in our field. The world is changing rapidly andrelentlessly and the competencies required of LIS professionals must evolve accordingly.
In response to this, the papers collected in this volume span a compelling array of topics,
from digital literacy and artificial intelligence to leadership, cultural heritage, and ethical
information practices. The subtopics explored offer nuanced perspectives on how our
profession
can remain responsive, inclusive, and forward-thinking.
These proceedings reflect not only the intellectual rigor of our contributors, but also a
collective commitment to preparing LIS professionals for a future shaped by both
opportunity and responsibility. I sincerely hope that the works compiled here will stimulate
further dialogue and collaboration well beyond the conference.
With appreciation,
Prof. Dong-Geun Oh, Ph.D.
President, I-LISS
